To attain a clean look on the ceiling, engineers came up with the idea of recessed lighting. It enables a streamlined finish in which there is no bulging bulb stuck on the ceiling. It creates a more flat finish that is very contemporary in look. Indeed, this is one innovation that gave interior design a new leap of improvement.

But recessed lighting fixtures are often used for different purposes. Yes, the most common use for it, and perhaps the original intention of the one that invented it, is to provide lighting to the room as a replacement to the old way of fluorescent light installation.

The photograph above shows the most common use of recessed lights. They are used to illuminate large rooms and the clean finish makes it the perfect choice for contemporary home designs and stern offices with a highly executive atmosphere.

But as already mentioned earlier, the recessed light has already found many uses in the industry of interior design. Now, it is no longer just valued for its ability to provide light, but also for its ability to create dramatic effects.

In this example, it appears that the recessed lighting fixtures installed are not really meant to light up the room. Instead, the light works is intended to create an artistic effect on the wall. The fan-shaped reflection of the light on the wall really did a good wall art that is not paint but light.

Another modernization idea is the use of recessed lights not only on walls and ceilings but on other parts of the house as well. It has been used on floors, doorways, and stairways in order to light up the path.

Here is a good example of how a recessed light is used somewhere far from the ceiling – which is the original place for recessed lighting fixtures. This example not only effectively creates a safer stairway, but it also creates a very stylish and dramatic effect. This is perfect for contemporary home designs.

In some instances, a recessed light is used to highlight something. When once feature of the house is specially outstanding, that feature can be highlighted by placing a recessed light near it, beside it, below it, or above it.

The above example shows how a recessed light placed very near the wall is used to highlight the hanged wall art. It also effectively creates a highlighted dimension that separates the fireplace from the rest of the room. And the effect is dramatic as the fireplace and the wall art are made more noticeable.

And recessed lighting fixtures are not only meant to highlight outstanding features of the house such as works of art and unique architecture. In many instances, a recessed light can also be used to transform something really simple into something more grandiose.

In the above example, the ingenious use of a recessed light really improved the look of a regular flower vase. Now, that flower vase is no longer just a regular home décor but a work of art – thanks to the lightshow provided.

And these are just some of the many ways that recessed lights can be used. If you browse the net for interior designs and home décor ideas, you will surely come across more uses for the ingenious lighting system.
