Modernization brought along new fads that are not only more efficient and more technologically advanced than the former ways, but also more stylish and more appealing to the eyes. One such innovation is the invention of recessed lights.

Going back to olden times, lighting fixtures such as fluorescent lights and bulbs were useful but not very attractive. The light emitting tube of the fluorescent light, for example, is exposed and the wirings and other parts are often out in the open.

Recessed lights are different compared to other ceiling lights. The main body of the lighting fixture is hidden above the ceiling. There are no messy wirings and no unsightly parts exposed. Only the ring and the bulb itself are visible to an onlooker.

Another great feature of recessed lighting fixture is how it is useful in so many different ways. There are different types available and each is designed for a specific purpose. The following is a summary of how different recessed lighting fixtures are used:

Main light source

When used as a main light source for large rooms such as kitchens, dining halls, living rooms, and others, you would prefer something bigger and with greater width. Higher voltage recessed lights should also be preferred.

For example, the expansive Progress Lighting 8'' Lensed Compact Fluorescent Pro-Optic Trim can light up large halls without a problem. Also, the pure white design of this recessed lighting fixture camouflages its form perfectly when installed on a white ceiling.

Workrooms

Another great use for recessed lighting fixture is on workrooms. Usually, workrooms are not that big so even if there is a great need for lighting, you do not really need something too bright. In fact, a light that is too bright will only get in the way of your work.

So depending on the size of your workroom, you may prefer smaller ones such as the Progress Lighting 6'' Drop Opal Shower Light Incandescent Trim or the Nora Lighting 5'' IC Eyeball Trim - NT-5070.

Highlight for artwork

Some home décor items such as works of art are too special to be left just sitting around. To really explore their splendor, you need to light them up and highlight their best features. One way to do this is to install a recessed light over it.

But if you are going to use recessed lights for this purpose, you better choose one that features a tilting head. The Nora Lighting 5'' IC Eyeball Trim - NT-5070 is a perfect example. With the tilting head, you can make the light focus on the work of art.

Outdoor

Recessed lights are also perfect for outdoor light. Because most of the body of a recessed lighting fixture is hidden above the ceiling, it is better protected from the elements.

For outdoors however, you would a recessed light that is etched even deeper onto the ceiling. This way, it is less likely to get wet or corroded. The Progress Lighting 5'' Incandescent Step Baffle Trim is just perfect for such a choice.
